Dan leaning on a car in Italy with Maine license plates
As I have said before I am lucky to be working with talented people who I consider my friends. So I thought I would introduce you to Dan, my D.P. -
Dan holds a BFA in photography from Maine College of Art
where he continues to teach photography and filmmaking in the college’s
continuing studies program. For the last five years Davis has worked both
freelance and full time as a commercial photographer, shooting anything
from Ford models to food.
As a photographer, Davis’s personal work has been collected and shown
throughout Maine and New England. Most recently, he was included in the
Center for Maine Contemporary Art’s 2008 Biennial and the Portland
Museum of Art’s 2007 Biennial. In 2005, Davis was selected by the Center
for Maine Contemporary Art as one of five photographers dubbed “the next
generation.” He’s now in talks with the University of New England for his
first solo show. In 2008 he was awarded a Good Idea Grant from the Maine
Arts Commission.
Before working as a photographer, Davis worked at an NBC affiliate station as a videographer. He shot local TV commercials and station identification promotions on both digital and 16mm film. In 2003, he made a short autobiographical film about his struggle with a rare blood disorder called ITP.
Davis has been a part of a series of audio diaries on National Public Radio about the how the recession has affected artists. As part of the web build out for this series, his photographs can be found at www.npr.org.
Davis is a licensed electrician and makes furniture from salvaged wood. He designs and builds sets for The Winter Harbor Theatre Company.
Dan is currently getting his Masters in Photography at Mass Arts.
